Inspired by the me too movement’s vision of uplifting and supporting survivors of sexual violence, “Immigrant Women Too” was launched as a platform to support asylum seeking women in sharing their stories.
Many women asylum seekers come to the United States to escape gender-based violence in their home countries. They are often survivors of severe trauma, and many experience feelings of isolation and hopelessness while navigating our country’s hostile immigration system. Through this platform we hope to show women asylum seekers that they are supported and they are not alone.
By spotlighting the particular challenges faced by immigrant survivors of gender-based violence, we also hope to enrich the conversation around immigration and asylum issues in the United States and mobilize the public to speak out in support of asylum seeking women.
